Areas Of Interest Session LOCATION: Creating Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Integration Despite the long and vibrant immigrant history of the United States and the untold economic and cultural benefits of this human phenomenon, the US has historically been ambivalent about newcomers and their role in society. Our region faces the same struggles as immigrant gateways of the past. Charlotte, considered to be a new US Hispanic Hypergrowth City, has an extraordinary opportunity to approach immigrant integration in a new and powerful way. How do we honor the human capital and prosperity that immigrants have brought to our community while coming to terms with the cultural and demographic shifts that accompany new migration patterns? What if we embraced immigrant integration as a dynamic two-way process where newcomers and the community receiving them work collaboratively to build a more vibrant, prosperous and cohesive society? Lunch is provided so please register by clicking HERE by Noon, February 8th, 2011. Make your reservations now to join the Diversity Council of the Carolinas for this exciting and relevant program!*Two hours of free parking are included with the luncheon. Attendees/members should use the 7th Street Garage, adjacent to the Levine Museum. Bring their parking ticket to the Museum’s visitor reception desk where it will be validated.
